Drum and Bugle Corps

The FEU Drum and Bugle Corps was organized in the 1930’s by FEU founder Dr. Nicanor Reyes.  Its purpose was to perform for the school during the UAAP Season and to participate in the various area festivals.

The DBC reorganized  for the 2005 season, competed successfully and was declared as the over-all champion at the 2005 Tejeros Drum and Bugle Competition held in Tejeros, Makati.  Continuing a long-standing tradition of excellence within the drum and bugle corps activity, they have established themselves as a performing group that dares to offer members new horizons and exciting performances for their alma mater.  Members have been consistently recognized for their achievements and have continued to become instructors within the activity.  Many more have gone on to teach other groups and school bands in their respective locales.

What makes the DBC impressive is the level of professionalism displayed in the competitive drum corps performance, achieved by members as young as 16.  The exaggerated display of semi-military marching formations, precisely coordinated with progressive, classical, and marching music showcase the talent and passion of these FEU students for music. The competitive atmosphere contributes to the level of quality the FEU DBC projects in its performances.  It won the first ever Cali Beatline Competition, a marching band competition held at the Aliw Theater, PICC Complex in December 2005, becoming the over-all champion.  They won 1st Place again at the Tejeros Makati Drum and Bugle Competition held in May 2009, and  1ST Runner Up in the 1st National Drum and Bugle Competition held last April 19, 2009 in Luneta Park.

Some of the performers have musical backgrounds; most of them do not.  Those with no previous training are taught by the staff and other members of the drum corps. The fact that the horn lines are clean comes from long hours of individual practice and group rehearsals.

It is presently headed by Mr. Ilumar Togado, with guest consultants Jun & Sandra Viray & Edgar Avenir. In the last few months, the FEU DBC won in the Tejeros Drum & Bugle Corps Competition, performed at the Baywalk along Roxas Boulevard as guests of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, participated in a shoot for a television ad, performed with Ogie Alcasid and participated in both the 3rd and 4th Philippine International Jazz Festival.
