Far Eastern Univeristy (FEU)’s Institute of Education (IE) took a significant step toward regional collaboration in educational innovation through a meeting between Maria Sofia A. Santiago-Jimenez, faculty member of IE, and Carlo Fernando, the newly appointed Learning Innovation and Information Specialist of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).

The discussion centered on SEAMEO’s flagship programs, including the SEAMEO Schools Network, SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award, SEA-Teacher Primary Research Metrics, and the SEA-Teacher Program, each designed to promote excellence, collaboration, and innovation across Southeast Asian educational institutions.

Fernando noted that the SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award is an avenue for graduate students to contribute to the global body of educational research and knowledge creation. He added that the SEA-Teacher Program continues to serve as a platform for undergraduate students to gain meaningful international teaching experience, fostering cultural exchange and professional growth.

“The ongoing partnership between IE and SEAMEO is a great example of how the university lives out its commitment to growth and collaboration. It gives our students valuable exposure to best practices across the [Southeast Asian] region, insights they can bring back to their own institutions and future classrooms. It also reminds us that striving for excellence isn’t just a slogan; it’s a shared effort that requires the contributions of many stakeholders,” said Santiago-Jimenez.
