Scenery

George Ng

About the Piece

Despite its humble subject, Scenery evokes the lyricism of the landscape, achieved mainly through the use of the wet-on-wet technique, whereby the paper has been previously rendered damp and wet prior to the application of the watercolor pigment. It is this technique that makes possible the flooding of the pigment and the diffusion of forms, thus transforming the scenery into a limpid, dream-like apparition.

George Ng was a member of the faculty of Fine Arts at the Holy Spirit College, and was often written up in the columns of the cultural critic Rosalinda Orosa. His works were purchased by his patron Angelica L. Mendoza, sister of Dr. Lourdes Reyes Montinola’s mother, Amparo. Ms. Mendoza was once principal of the FEU Girls High School.
