About the Piece
In a splendid transposition of the arts, the rich legacy of Philippine colonial church architecture has been captured and documented in paintings, notably by Rody Ragodon and Felixberto Sta. Maria – the latter a noted educator and author and, based on his renditions of ancient churches,
a competent artist.
After decades of work as an educator at both the University of the Philippines in Diliman and Baguio (where he set up a replica of the UP Oblation by National Artist Guillermo Tolentino) and the Ateneo de Manila University (where he set up the university press), Santa Maria, before retiring, served as president of FEU from 1989 to 1995. At this his last posting, he established the President’s Committee on Culture, which remains active to this day.
