Master of Science in Mathematics

Institute of Arts and Sciences

The Master of Science in Mathematics program aims to develop deep and comprehensive understanding of the various areas of mathematics such as algebra, analysis, topology and geometry, as well as the applications of mathematics in allied fields. 

The coursework enables students to delve into both pure and applied mathematics, while the thesis requirement prepares the graduates for mathematical research at the doctoral level. 

The MS in Mathematics program objectives are aligned with the guidelines provided in the CHED Memorandum Order No. 15, Series of 2019 and CHED Memorandum Order No. 10, Series of 2011 that will enable the students

  1. To demonstrate advanced knowledge in the field of mathematics and its areas;
  2. To use advanced mathematical skills in various fields of specialization;
  3. To apply skills in pattern recognition, generalization, abstraction, critical analysis, logical reasoning, synthesis, problem-solving, and rigorous argument;
  4. To exhibit written and oral skills in communicating mathematical proofs and solutions;
  5. To develop research activities towards the advancement of mathematics and allied fields; and
  6. To showcase an enhanced perception of the vitality and importance of mathematics in the modern world, including the connections between different areas of mathematics and between mathematics and other disciplines.

The Master of Science in Mathematics program will develop among the students a deep and comprehensive understanding of mathematics in various fields such as algebra, analysis, topology, geometry, and its applications to data science and information technology. Its coursework enables students to delve into both pure and applied mathematics, with its thesis requirement preparing graduates for mathematical research at the doctoral level.

Student must complete the following:

 

Required Courses = 15 units
Electives = 12 units
Thesis = 9 units

Total = 36 units
