About the Piece
The Sarimanok, commissioned by Don Vicente Lopez, Jr., in 1975, hews to an inviolable iconography: a bird or fowl, possessed of brilliant and myriad colors, a feathered tail, holding a fish on its beak or claw. Its design is profuse with decorative scrolls, leaves, and spiral motifs. In all this, Dumlao recognized that the appropriate visual treatment was nothing else but Art Nouveau.
