The Far Eastern University Library accepts visiting researchers from other institutions as long as they follow the library’s policies.
ELIGIBILITY/REQUIREMENTS
The FEU Library accepts all visiting researchers who have referral letters (addressed to our University Librarian) from their institutions/libraries, with the exception of grade school and high school students.
SCHEDULE
Visiting researchers are only accepted on Fridays during regular semesters. No visiting researchers are accepted during examination weeks and semestral breaks.
PROCEDURE
The first step before planning a visit to the FEU Library is to check our online catalog. Our Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) lists the entirety of our book, serial, multimedia, thesis, and dissertation collection. If you do not find anything useful for your research in our catalog, then it is very unlikely that our collection will be helpful upon your personal visit. If you happen to come upon items in our collection that will be useful to your research, please compile them and print for use upon your visit.
The second step is to secure a referral letter from your institution or your library, with a date scheduled on a Friday. Make sure that it is addressed to our University Librarian, Dr. Maria Gia G. Gamolo. To be completely sure your visit’s schedule will not be in conflict with any library activity you may contact us.
The third step is to come to the visitors’ lounge of FEU Manila on the date set in your referral letter and to inform the staff of your intent to visit the library. Present your referral letter and ID here. You will be directed to the Reference Section of the FEU Library, located at the second floor of the Nicanor Reyes Hall.
The fourth step is to follow the instructions of the Reference librarians. If you do not yet have a printout or copy of items in the collection to use in your research, you will have to search through the library catalog on-site. Ideally, a visiting researcher will have already done this before personally visiting the university library. The will be compiled in a text program and printed out. A reference librarian will then endorse the researcher’s referral letter and direct them to the librarian’s office.
The fifth step is to visit the Librarian’s Office at the third floor and to show them the endorsement of the Reference section.
The sixth step is to pay the library fee of P60.00 per head at the cashier at the administration building, and return to the Reference Section.
The seventh step is to show the Reference librarians your receipt, after which they will grant you a permit and assistance on which sections to visit. You may now proceed with your research.
POLICIES
Visiting researchers are expected to follow the same rules on attire, decorum, security, IDs, and noise as students of FEU. With the exception of requiring uniforms, the same policies listed here will apply.
