Stations of the Cross

Carlos Botong Francisco

About the Piece

The country’s foremost muralist may not have written it, but what Carlos “Botong” Francisco has painted is a veritable “Tale of Two Stations.” For indeed, two institutions of learning have been the fortunate beneficiaries of his artistic genius: Don Bosco and FEU. The same subject, the commemoration of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, has been painted by artists or sculpted in relief, adorning our churches and allowing the faithful to spiritually participate in the suffering and death of Christ. The religious devotion is also variously called “Way of Sorrow,” “Via Crucis,” and “Via Dolorosa.”
