The MS in Biology program objectives are aligned with the guidelines provided in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 06 Series of 2011

  1. To develop critical-thinking and problem based learning skills. The anticipated outcome will be a student with the ability to develop new ideas, to explore new areas of science or other academic endeavors, to design, implement , and evaluate scientific investigations, and to assess, interpret and understand data and its meaning.
  2. To develop a strong diversified background in modern biology appropriate to the individual students. The anticipated outcome will be a student with an appreciation for the areas of modern biology and the inter-relatedness of these areas. To meet the growing demands of specialization in research, industry, health, and education; to give due coverage to emerging areas of Biology such as Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering etc.
  3. To link postgraduate education with fieldwork and productivity by laying special emphasis to the needs of the local conditions, the environment and the requirements of society, and to help increase productivity and provide employment opportunities including self-employment and entrepreneurship and to explore biological concepts that will support the mission and vision of the university leading to more innovative directions in Biology.
  4. To develop the ability to communicate scientific ideas in both written and oral formats. The anticipated outcome will be a student who can organize and present  his or her scientific ideas in both written and oral formats.

Master of Science in Biology is designed to broaden the students’ knowledge and skills enabling them to be prepared in the following careers, occupations or trades that the graduates of the M.Sc. Biology program may go into.

  • The graduate program provides students with opportunities for intensive research and classroom training in focused areas of science. Engaged in basic and applied research where they can be employed as researchers or biological laboratory technicians in government agencies, museums, zoos and aquaria and private organizations.
  • The graduate can also go into industrial research work involving product development, management or inspection particularly in agriculture, biotechnology, food and nutrition, pharmaceutical and other health care related industries.
  • Master’s degree in Biology provides foundation to pursue veterinary, dental or medical school paths, in addition to positions in research and development, laboratory testing, instruction, production, and quality control.
  • Graduate may also engaged in biology-based industries such as production, food science and technology, public lectures and seminar-workshops, writing science articles in journals and books, and collection, preservation and sale of biological specimens.
  • The program qualifies one to work  as a professor or researcher in a college or university.

The FEU Master of Science in Biology is an advanced-level program for students aspiring to work or currently working in an academic, research or industrial setting. This program requires a thesis. The student will be equipped with extensive knowledge and higher competencies vis-à-vis their chosen specialized field in biology. The thesis track is designed to enhance critical-thinking and problem-solving skills for students who plan to continue their graduate education or enter research-based careers.

 

Students must complete the following:

  1. Core subjects – 15 units
  2. Major courses – 6 units
  3. Elective courses – 9 units
  4. Seminar – 1 unit
  5. Thesis – 6 units
TOTAL: 37 units
