Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics

Effective School Year 2024 – 2025

The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional courses. The first and second semesters of the fourth year is devoted to field practice in hospitals dietetics, food service and community nutrition/public health nutrition.

The program is designed to produce globally competitive professionals who can perform the roles of a Nutritionist-Dietitian in Hospital, Food Service, Public Health and other related settings that seek to service the dietary needs of patients, individuals, and community.

The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) Program of the Far Eastern University Manila aims to produce globally competitive Nutritionist-Dietitians that uphold Fortitude, Excellence, and Uprightness in the practice of their profession in the fields of Hospital Dietetics, Public Health, Food Service, and other related fields that promote nutrition and wellness of the people and the community.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

  1. Promote the role of nutrition and dietetics for human well-being, in relation to the needs, resources, and potentials of individuals, groups, and families.
  2. Manage nutrition programs integrating comprehensive nutritional care for the total wellness of individuals, groups, and institutions, in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural setting
  3. Integrate nutrition concerns with local and national development efforts.
  4. Practice professionalism in managing a food service unit in hospital or other settings
  5. Implement an economically viable activity pertaining to nutrition and related topics
  6. Design and/or conduct a scientific study on food, nutrition, and related topics.
  7. Engage in lifelong learning activities.

Graduates of BS in Nutrition and Dietetics may pursue a career path in:

  3. Therapeutic Nutritionist – Dietitian
  4. Administrative Nutritionist – Dietitian

  9. Nutritionist – Dietitian

The BS Nutrition and Dietetics program features a well-designed curriculum compliant with the guidelines set by CHED CMO 14 s.2017, facilities that will enhance the learning experience of the students, and qualified and competent faculty members committed to the fulfillment of the goals and objectives of the program.

The Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing that houses the BSND program has linkage with various institutions like hospitals where students can be deployed for practicum/on-the-job training.

The reciprocity program between the Philippine Board of Nutrition and Dietetics and the US Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics open doors for opportunities for Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians (RNDs) to enhance their craft given the opportunity to become members of the Academy and participate in their continuing professional education programs.  RNDs can take the US Licensure Examination with minimum requirements.

The BS Nutrition and Dietetics program is a four (4) year program with a total of 181 credit units, equivalent to 5,286 hours with 1200 practicum or supervised practice training hours (20 units) in Hospital (600 hrs), Food Service (300 hrs), and Community Nutrition (300 hrs) to complete the requirements for graduation and Nutrition and Dietetics Licensure Examination.

 

The basis in benchmarking in academic Nutrition and Dietetics is CHED Memorandum Order No. 14 series of 2017 (Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Program).
