Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy

Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing

The BS Pharmacy program is a four (4) year multi-faceted, outcome-based program, that prepare students with the knowledge and skills for career in various areas of the pharmaceutical field. The program encompasses with a wide range of lectures, laboratory activities, and experiential pharmacy practice to prepare the graduates for various roles within the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.  

Students are also exposed in supervised experiential pharmacy practice  in the different areas of pharmacy practice such as Institutional, Public Health and Regulatory, Community, Hospital, and Industry pharmacy.  During the fourth-year level of the program, students are required to attend  experiential pharmacy practice program in various fields of pharmacy from the  different CHED accredited affiliation establishments covering a total of 1,200 hours.

The program aims to provide pharmacists who are legally qualified, globally competitive, who exemplify the core values of fortitude, excellence, and uprightness; and are scientifically and morally competent to deliver a full spectrum of pharmaceutical services to their patients’  health and well-being consistent with international standards.

The BS Pharmacy program aims to produce competitive graduates who can portray the following roles in the different fields of pharmaceutical industries.

  1. Professional pharmacist
  2. Pharmaceutical care provider
  3. Researcher
  4. Manager and entrepreneur
  5. Educator

Graduates of the BS Pharmacy program may pursue a career in any of the following areas of pharmacy practice:

  1. Pharmaceutical manufacturing/production
  2. Production planning and inventory control
  3. Quality Assurance
  4. Research and Development
  5. Regulatory affairs
  6. Academe
  7. Hospital pharmacy
  8. Clinical pharmacy
  9. Community pharmacy
  10. Cosmetics industry
  11. Veterinary industry
  12. Clinical research
  13. Government service (DOH, FDA, Philhealth, PRC, PDEA, DDB, etc)
  14. Health publications
  15. Sales or marketing
  16. Institutional pharmacy (non-pharmaceutical establishments with pharmacy services (Supreme Court, San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Airlines, San Miguel Corporation, GSIS, etc)

Graduates of BS in Pharmacy may pursue a career path in:

  • Community drugstores
  • Government agencies
  • Research and development
  • Public health
  • Pharmaceutical industry/production
  • Quality assurance
  • Cosmetics industry
  • Veterinary industry
  • Institutional pharmacy

They may apply as a:

  • Hospital pharmacist

  • Regulatory affairs officer
  • Process development pharmacist

  • Medical research scientist

The BS Pharmacy program curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid
foundation in pharmaceutical chemistry, practice of pharmacy, pharmaceutics,
pharmaceutical sciences, social and administrative pharmacy, and research.

In a CHED mandated Internship program or Experiential Pharmacy Practice, learners or
student-interns will be given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in actual
work setting in order to increase their knowledge and further develop their skills,
behaviors, and values. It also provides students with an opportunity to complement their
formal learning with practical knowledge, skills, and desirable attitudes and to gain
hands-on experience in recognized and accredited host training establishments.

 

BS Pharmacy program is at least a four (4) year program with a total of 195 credit units, equivalent to 5,322 hours, the last year of which is consists of 1,200 hours equivalent to 24 credit units (1 unit = 50 hours) of internship or supervised pharmacy practice experience in five (5) areas of pharmacy practice that is a required for the Pharmacist Licensure Examination.
