FEU Manila – Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, in cooperation with Sibol Productions, held its “Sustainability Symposium” last Feb. 12 at the FEUture Center Auditorium, featuring three speakers who presented different yet interrelated views on sustainable development in tourism and hospitality.
Allen Robert Nava, entrepreneur of Albertours and Philippine Travel Master, gave a talk on “Sustainable Development Through Tourism in the Philippines,” during which he stressed the need for responsible tourism practices that integrate economic development, environmental stewardship, and people empowerment.
Agnes Larice Adem, Sustainability Manager of Sodexo Onsite Services Philippines, Inc., spoke on “Plastic Reduction, Food Loss, and Waste at Procurement Standards (Google Philippines),” where she showed how organized procurement structures and corporate sustainability standards can greatly help mitigate environmental effects in big corporations.
Pent Elyria Dawn Liongson, independent GAD specialist and National GAD Resource Pool member, talked about “The Role of Gender Equality in Sustainable Development in Tourism and Hospitality,” which presented a highly innovative and timely view that expanded the definition of sustainability to encompass inclusivity and equal opportunities.
