A Safe Space for Support, Growth, and Well-Being

Welcome to FEU Healing Spaces

FEU Healing Spaces is a dedicated venue that provides basic mental health support to mental health issues (minimum to moderate) that are clinical in nature. It primarily providespsychological counseling and emotional support services for those seeking understanding and personal growth. We offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment where individuals can openly discuss their concerns, explore their emotions, and develop healthy coping strategies. At FEU, we believe that mental wellness is an essential part of academic success and personal development. Through FEU Healing Spaces, students are encouraged to prioritize their well-being and seek support whenever needed.

Framework and Purpose

The general framework and purpose of FEU Healing Spaces are the following:

  1. Adheres to the principle of “boundaries of competence” in the delivery of psychological counseling services.
  2. Provides basic psychological support through time-limited and goal-oriented psychological counseling.
  3. Primarily takes a mental health and well-being perspective instead of a clinical-psychiatric-illness diagnosis perspective.
  4. It follows the WHO framework that mental health services are primarily about self-care management and informal community mental health care than formal specialized care. Its objective is the promotion and education of mental wellbeing and prevention of mental health issues fitting in an academic institution.
  5. Works in collaboration with the Guidance and Counseling Office and the University Health Services through accepting referrals.
  6. A venue for learning and training graduate students in the MA Clinical Psychology program.
  7. Adheres to RA 11036, or Mental Health Act, specifically the declaration that mental health and acquisition of mental health services are the basic rights of all Filipinos.

WHO IS THE CLIENTELE?

FEU Healing Spaces welcomes members of the FEU community (students, faculty, employees) who have mental health issues (minimum to moderate) that are clinical in nature. They can keep or maintain social and occupational functioning but experience some difficulties from problems of living. Clientele includes individuals with:

  • Clinical diagnosis and recommended by psychiatrist for basic psychological counseling
  • Experience clinical anxiety and depression, and other clinically emotion-related issues.
  • Psycho-social-emotional difficulties who may benefit from basic psychological support.

Individuals who require specialized care, or those with severe clinical needs or psychiatric conditions, fall outside the scope of Healing Spaces and are therefore not eligible for its services. Such individuals will be referred to appropriate private or public mental health service providers.

GENERAL GUIDELINE FOR REFERRAL AND APPOINTMENT

Healing Spaces only accommodate referrals from the Guidance and Counseling Office, University Health Services, Institute Deans, Department Chairs, or immediate supervisors. Referrals shall be made through an email request for an appointment with Healing Spaces. The schedule of the intake interview will be communicated to the client via email. Appointment schedules will be based on the availability of in-house psychologists.   Healing Spaces does not accept external clients or referrals from outside the University, including, but not limited to, family members or relatives of students, employees, or faculty members.

3. Does Healing Spaces provide a diagnosis or clinical impression of a mental health condition?

At present, Healing Spaces does not provide formal diagnoses or clinical impressions of mental health conditions. These services require specialized psychological assessments and evaluations, which are beyond the scope of the services currently offered by Healing Spaces.

Nonetheless, counseling services may proceed based on the results of the intake interview and subsequent sessions, as deemed appropriate.

4. If I begin counseling sessions, am I allowed to discontinue them at any time?

Yes. Participation in individual counseling sessions at Healing Spaces is entirely voluntary. Clients may choose to continue or discontinue counseling services at any time.

However, clients are encouraged to complete the recommended counseling sessions and participate in follow-up sessions after the termination of counseling, as these may support progress toward their counseling goals.

5. What happens if I fail to show up for a scheduled session?

Clients have the right to cancel or reschedule their appointments if notice is given at least one (1) day before the scheduled session. Repeated cancellations or requests for rescheduling are discouraged, as they affect the availability of counseling resources, including the reserved counseling room and the schedule of the designated psychologist.

Clients who fail to attend a scheduled appointment without prior notice will be considered a “no show.” Healing Spaces reserves the right to terminate counseling services after three (3) consecutive or non-consecutive no-shows.

6. Who will have access to the information disclosed by the client?

Healing Spaces adheres to ethical and professional standards in the practice of psychology. All information disclosed by clients is treated with confidentiality, subject to its scope and ethical limitations.

Before counseling services begin, clients will be informed of the scope and limits of confidentiality through the informed consent process. This ensures that clients understand their rights and responsibilities, as well as the circumstances under which confidentiality may need to be breached in accordance with ethical, legal, or institutional requirements.

7. What are the operating hours of Healing Spaces?

The operating hours of Healing Spaces depend on the availability of the in-house psychologist and are typically scheduled from Monday to Friday. Services are provided by appointment only; therefore, Healing Spaces is open only during confirmed counseling sessions and scheduled appointments.
