Prominent banker Antonio S. Abacan Jr. has been named a new member of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) Monetary Board. Mr. Abacan is an FEU Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduate and FEU Outstanding Alumnus awardee in 2007. He was appointed together with Peter B. Favila and Felipe M. Medalla, who will serve a second term in the board.
“They were carefully chosen by the President to ensure that we continue with fiscal policies that would help sustain our growth momentum and attract more investments. I’m certain that Messrs. Medalla, Favila and Abacan will carry on the great service set by their predecessors,” according to Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III.
Mr. Abacan served as president of Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. from 1993 to April 2006 and of Philippine Savings Bank and Unibancard Corp. from 1988 to 1991.
