Jheco Lorica, a senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Visual Communication student, took home the Grand Prize in the Oil/Acrylic Category of the Vision Petron National Student Art Competition 2022. The contest was launched on November 29, 2022, and the winners were announced on April 28, 2023.

This is Lorica’s third time to join, and he was a finalist in 2018. “I’m surprised and very happy. I want to thank all my professors in the Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts for encouraging me. Thank you also to the Petron Vision judges for deciding that my piece deserved to win.”

He shared that his entry titled “Ang Tele-vision ni Future Anim-ator Kid” is very personal. “It expresses my determination to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming an animator despite the challenges I have faced in life. I want to become an animator for the masses and help make our local superheroes more popular.”

Meanwhile, BFA Major in Studio Arts third-year student Justine Shane Sitchon was a Runner-up in the Digital Art Category. Her entry “Fly Through” is about feeling free when dreaming of the future.

“Thank you to my IARFA professors for giving us the opportunity and guiding us in competitions like this,” she said.

Lorica and Sitchon are set to receive Php75,000 and PHP30,000, respectively.

Vision Petron, which has been running since 2001, aims to discover outstanding work of talented youth in painting, photography, and other art forms.

It was also established to instill in the Filipino youth pride in being Filipino as it involves a yearly theme revolving around Philippine values, traditions, skills, natural resources, and other Filipiniana topics.
