Student-teachers from Indonesia who are part of the Southeast Asia Teacher Project (SEA-Teacher) were greeted with a full schedule prepared by Far Eastern University (FEU) Institute of Education (IE).

FEU-IE is an active member and participant of the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange” in the Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher Project) spearheaded by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Secretariat.

Dr. Elisa Mañalac, IE dean said, “We took the opportunity to join this program to strengthen Teacher Education on an international level, to share and learn the best practices of student teaching in Southeast Asia. Each participating university is responsible for mentoring the student teachers in the schools of their respective countries.”

To date, FEU-IE has sent three (3) batches of three (3) students and received 3 batches as well. Three FEU-IE students were also sent to Indonesia: Angelica Presto-BSEd ENG went to Universitas Negeri Padang, Kimberly Casaljay-BSEd ENG will gain experience at Universitas Negeri Makasassar and Yzelle Lopez-BSEd GENSCI is assigned to Sriwijaya University.

While the 4th and the current inbound batch is composed of Indonesian student teachers, Nurul Ezkanandyta of the Indonesia University of Education, Aqidatul Izzah of Tadulako University and Sri Jayati of Universitas Negeri Makassar.

The partnership with SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education) which started in 2015, is one the seven priority areas, “Revitalizing Teacher Education”, mandated by the SEAMEO Council, composed of the 11 Ministers of Education of Southeast Asia, Dr. Manalac added.

The project aims to provide an opportunity for pre-service student teachers from teacher education institutes and universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum teaching) for 1 month in the schools of other countries within Southeast Asia.
