In celebration of Human Rights Day, the Far Eastern University – Department of Communication (DepCom) in partnership with In Defense of Human Rights and Dignity Movement (iDEFEND) and Cinemata, conducted Likhang Mulat Film Movements Festival 2022 from December 9 to 12.

Likhang Mulat (Socially Conscious Creations) is a social advocacy film festival and visual arts exhibit that aims to advance the discourse on social issues and human rights in the Philippines. Since 2019, the said departmental project has been highlighting progressive media and short films that serve as a creative tool to stir critical consciousness and active engagement of the viewing public. Recently, Likhang Mulat bagged Excellence Award from the 9th Philippine Student Quill Awards.

In line with the commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the short films delved into issues on domestic violence, gender equality, activism, personal rights, extrajudicial killings, environment, to name a few, anchored on the department’s mantra “may alam, may pakialam.”

This year’s edition of Likhang Mulat adhered to the theme “Forda Freedom: Matiwasay, Pantay, Ligtas, at Malayang Buhay”. The Top 10 finalists from a pool of short films produced for Introduction to Film classes were selected and screened at SB 101 and SB 201 in FEU Manila. Cinemata, a platform for social and environmental films about the Asia-Pacific, served as an official partner for the streaming of these social advocacy films. The films also had their premiere during the Human Rights Festival on December 10 held at Malingap Street, Quezon City.

Likhang Mulat: Gabi ng Parangal 2022 was held at SB 101 to recognize the outstanding audiovisual productions of the 2nd year Communication students taking Convergent Media and Digital Cinema tracks.
