Far Eastern University bagged the championship of the 43rd Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc.- Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health (PAMET-PASMETH) Interschool Quiz Show last Sept. 20, 2024 at Manila Central University. The winning team is composed of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology students Clarence Tendido, Kyian Crista Salvatierra, Princess Joana Ramos, and Von Harvey Ferranculo.
The FEU MedTech Quizzers bested a total of 67 teams from different schools nationwide. Angeles University Foundation and San Pedro College finished second place and third place, respectively.
“The quiz bee setup came as no surprise. As a group, we also identified our weaknesses, set our goals, and strategized on how to bring the ‘key’ back to FEU,” said Ramos.
Tendido shared they began to believe they would go all the way when they had a “perfect” first round.
Salvatierra also credited the coaches’ reinforcement of their team chemistry and mental resilience. “We did not have a lot of disagreements regarding our answers, and we were composed from the start,” she said.
One major takeaway from the winning experience is to take preparations as seriously as possible. “I realized how important it is to always prepare because you can never be truly ‘too ready’ for anything. It is in those unanticipated moments that your versatility and resilience are tested. Moreover, as a future Tamaraw medical technologist, you need to have a strong faith on yourself—on your skills, education, and training—because it is inevitable in our field to confront situations that will challenge our capabilities,” said Ramos.
“The competition taught me the importance of teamwork and communication, essential skills in any medical field. I learned how to thrive under pressure, as quick decision-making and accuracy are vital in medical technology.” said Ferranculo.
The coaches include Dr. Kerfelcel Retoriano, Francisco Gellecanao, Ariane Laranang, Rocelle Leonardo, and Andrei Ramos.
The PAMET-PASMETH Interschool Quiz Show is the biggest competition for schools with MedTech programs and held during MedTech Week.
With the win, FEU Manila will keep the symbolic PAMET-PASMETH Quiz Show Key to Academic Excellence trophy until the next edition in 2025.
