In a significant stride toward enhancing campus security and fostering a strong sense of partnership, Far Eastern University (FEU) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP SAF).

FEU is embracing an innovative approach to its collaboration with the uniformed personnel of PNP SAF. This partnership aims to cultivate a positive and respectful relationship between students and law enforcement officers, contributing to a safer and more harmonious campus environment.

Various departments within the university are taking proactive steps to facilitate meaningful engagement and development. The Department of Psychology will fortify the psychological resilience of PNP SAF personnel. To this end, they will establish designated safe spaces, expertly led by board-certified faculty members. These spaces will serve as environments where personnel can reflect upon and process their unique experiences, fostering emotional well-being and camaraderie.

Simultaneously, the Department of Communication is committed to honing the communication skills and crisis management capabilities of the personnel. Through dynamic public speaking workshops and comprehensive media and information literacy training, PNP SAF members will acquire the tools necessary to effectively communicate and navigate challenging situations when interacting with the public.

Beyond these targeted initiatives, FEU and PNP SAF are embarking on joint community-focused endeavors that underscore their shared commitment to national progress. Collaborative efforts will encompass community immersion, disaster response preparedness, social services initiatives, volunteerism, and outreach programs.

PNP SAF also pledges to enhance FEU’s security measures through dedicated training and knowledge-sharing.

“Through this partnership, FEU security personnel will be equipped with PNP’s expertise to ensure a safe and secure campus environment,” said Vice President for Corporate Affairs Dr. Rowena Capulong Reyes. “This holistic approach promises to foster a sense of ease and confidence for students, faculty, and staff while within the university premises.”

Importantly, this collaboration extends valuable opportunities to FEU students. Internship training programs will be established which will enable students to gain practical insights and skills within the law enforcement sector. These initiatives will bridge the gap between academia and real-world applications, facilitating a smoother transition for FEU graduates into potential law enforcement careers.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding serves as a resounding testament to FEU and PNP SAF’s shared vision. Both institutions recognize the significance of a symbiotic partnership in ensuring the safety and well-being of their respective communities.
