The Education Research Forum (TERF) is the semestral culminating activity of undergraduate research classes in IE. The event is an opportunity for both pre-service and in-service teachers to deepen their understanding on the direction of education research in the country. Likewise, it is a venue for IE’s undergraduate students to share their research.
This year, TERF 2020 plenary session focuses on the direction of education research during the after the COVID-19 pandemic. IE invited Sec. Leonor Briones, represented by the Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction of Department of Education, Dr. Diosdado M. San Antonio, to talk about the future of education research for Philippine basic education. To complement this topic, IE also invited Dr. Jennie V. Jocson, Vice President for Academics of Philippine Normal University, to talk about the research direction for teacher education in the Philippines. With these keynotes, IE students and guests were able to grasp a deeper understanding on the research priorities for basic and teacher education in the country.
In the afternoon, the breakout session allowed student-researchers of the Institute to present their research to invited faculty members who served as their paper examiners. Paper presentations covered research topics in teacher education, language and literature education, and physical education, and sports management.
The event concluded with a message from the Dean, Dr. Harold John Culala, emphasizing that research is a way of life in the teaching profession. Dean Culala also encouraged IE students to continue exercising their research skills as an educator must always be informed of research in terms of the teaching and learning practices.
